Micaela Erlanger is known for her talent in styling celebrities like Lupita N’yongo and Jared Leto for the red carpet. She is known for taking bold fashion risks that ultimately give her clients a lot of attention and success on the red carpet. Recently, she has been working with the stunning Gal Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Throughout the world tour for the film, Gadot was seen in a variety of eye-catching outfits, from Dolce mini dresses to Balmain sparklers and a striking red Prada gown fit for a superhero. Erlanger shares insight into her styling process, her fashion philosophy, and what she has in store for Gadot’s next red carpet appearances.
When it comes to dressing Wonder Woman for a red carpet event, the key is to carefully consider the client, the event, and what they are promoting. For Gal Gadot’s first press tour of this magnitude, it was essential to ensure that she was presented in a strong and impactful manner to promote both her and her significant role. The goal was to create a look that was perfectly tailored to the occasion, and I believe we succeeded with the custom Prada dress.

Same here! Have you thought about the significance of her portrayal of such a well-known and iconic character in the movie, without going overboard with the costume?
Definitely. It’s truly captivating and wonderful. We were thrilled that she was taking on such an influential role for women, and the empowering message behind it is also incredibly exciting. Her character plays a crucial part in the franchise, and we are taking it very seriously. This is a huge deal. So yes, that was definitely something we thought about.

Who are you leaning towards in terms of designers for her? And why?
For me, it wasn’t just about choosing particular designers, but more about offering a mix of styles and options that look great on the client. It was important to provide diversity and variation in our selections, especially since she is representing something on a large scale. While she may have been in “Fast & Furious”, this opportunity was truly a game-changer for her. It was a big responsibility, but our main goal was to enjoy fashion and make bold and thrilling fashion choices and decisions for her.

Do you think you aim for a specific theme with each outfit, or is it more about making a bold impact with every look?
Definitely the latter. We always keep in mind the overall story we’re trying to tell, but the focus is on ensuring Gal Gadot looks stunning and powerful in each outfit. I mean, she’s not just any actress, she’s Wonder Woman! We wanted to emphasize that and make sure she looked appropriate and stunning at every event she attended. It had to be glamorous, it is a movie premiere after all. We selected outfits that were not only striking but could only be pulled off by someone as fierce as her. It was our way of paying homage to Wonder Woman—she truly owned every look.

She had a hilarious moment on Jimmy Kimmel where she openly talked about her admiration for Wonder Woman’s costume and, more specifically, her breasts. It seems like there’s a trend of dresses highlighting the dĂ©colletage in a tasteful and chic manner – could there be a connection there?
Honestly, we didn’t even consider that aspect while dressing her. She looked stunning in everything we tried on, and it’s amusing that it wasn’t even on our radar. But hey, there it is!
When it comes to talk show appearances versus big red carpet events, our approach is all about being comfortable and approachable. We always make sure the outfit suits the occasion, whether it’s a stylish pantsuit, a flirty dress, or a polished look for a press day. And of course, we bring on the glamour for those major red carpet moments.

Let’s break it down…
Mexico City was like being at the Cannes Film Festival, it was such an incredible city. The world premiere was huge, with a massive carpet. We chose a dress with a hint of Spanish style, featuring a high-low hem, ruffles, and floral details. Then we were at Radio City Music Hall – a fun, glamorous, and fierce look was essential. Why not surprise everyone with something short? London was where we went all out with a glamorous, movie-star red carpet look. It was funny how all the premieres had black carpets except for London, where she wore a stunning red gown – it was like fate! There’s always a purpose and intention behind our choices. It was a great collaboration between Gal and me.
This is just the beginning of our story, as you said, the start of a big franchise. There’s definitely more to come.
